The Walker Marine Story

The Walker Marine Story

1978 - 1979

Cameron Walker modified a TI-10000 24-channel seismograph in 1978 for high-resolution shallow coal seam imaging and founded Walker Geophysical Company in 1979. Using surface seismic methods, Walker mapped the extent of abandoned underground coal mine workings (Mining Congress Journal, Oct 1979.) Field techniques used by Walker included point-source/point-receiver layout (now rediscovered), high frequency low cut filters, handmade fractional pound explosive sources, and swath recording.

1980’s

In 1980, Walker upgraded to a TI DFS-V 56-channel seismograph and started using down-hole hydrophones and an air gun source for high resolution seismic.
By the end of the 80’s, Walker had acquired and built equipment for running shallow water marine surveys.

1990’s

In the early 90’s Walker ran a dual streamer 3D project in the shallow, 7.5 ft deep water of Mobile Bay and added Marine to the company name.

2000’s

Walker Marine continues to push the boundaries of technology with its own state-of-the-art seismograph (MARDAQ-25) and a proprietary compact multi-channel streamer design with tight spacing between hydrophones and pre-amplifiers which provide the highest resolution image possible.
